I have 5 IDE drives, that i want to use at the same time.
Like you would normally would have 2-3 on a normal comp.

But since i have apple powerbook (laptop) i'll need an external solution.

From what i can find, i have 3 options.

1 - Server - Racks
2 - HDD Enclosuers
3 - Case Stacker

For 1 - From what i can see, most only deal with SATA & SCSI.

For 2 - Can only find single HDD solutions, and not a encloure that can take more than 1 HD at a time. And i really dont want to get 5 single HD encloures, each with their own PSU.

For 3 - I've seen the CoolerMaster Stacker STC-T01 which looks like my best option ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Coolermaster_Cases_126.html )
Now this will probably sound stupid, but will i need a processor if i get this.
All i want is to install the HD's and network it with the powerbook.

Any advice?...please.

that coolermaster one is just a normal case that can hold a load of drives, you'd still need a motherboard, cpu, a full computer

so why not just do that? just build a cheap file server? doesnt need to be hugely powerful at all. Get a case like that, put all the drives in it, maybe a Gbit NIC and just use them as network storage. stick xp/server/linux on it, anything really...sorted

as that coolermaster has space for 11 5 1/2" drives, id consider some enclosures that would fit in those and actually cool the drives a bit

you could be better off with a smaller case than that actually...that thing is HUGE
