Hi all,

Recently got a laptop. At home I have a wired network. I can set this is and use the laptop on my home network. (internet + files + printer)

However at Uni, they have certain areas on campus where I can access internet wirelessly.
Please see: http://lin.lboro.ac.uk/ (I don't actually understand that stuff on there having not used wireless before, but if I cnt twig what it means will ask at the uni).

However, what I was wondering... is there such a way to use both. obviously not simultaneously, but have them both setup so it can either choose which to use, or even if I have to select which option to use.

Laptop is using win xp, spec of laptop is here; http://www.dvdrom-guide.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12250

Cheers guys.

Absolutely no problem at all.

Each adapter/nic would be shown separately in Network Connections. As long as they are set up as required, e.g. using dhcp or not, then they will work fine.

but, would use both for internet access.... when at home, using the wired network, I'd want it to pickup the net through the ethernet port.

But when I go to uni, I'd need it to pickup the net from the wireless network.

Sorry, not 100% sure what you mean my dhcp - is that when its setup for net access? - as both wired and wireless would require this.

Cheers

dhcp is dynamic host configuration protocol it just means you will get an IP address automatically. Your wired network is seperate from your wireless network you just need to configure your wireless network card to connect to the wireless network and you will be fine. How you configure your wireless depends on what you are using to manage your wireless network connections. There are a few different pieces of software that do this atheros, Intel Pro Set or windows XP will also manage it. When you turn your wireless network on you shoul be able to right click on an icon showing signal strength and configure it. The only detail you really need to enter is the ssid
