how do you apply password to a winrar file? i have rar file i want to protect. i try to find this "advanced" option, but cant find it. i using winrar 3.0. what i did was: file, then password. I enter a password and click ok. i open the rar file and it did not ask for a password to enter.

Advanced is correct ... then click OK after entering the pass, select your other settings for the archive and click OK again to start compression. You can encrypt the file names within the archive also - think that is under the Advanced tab as well.

Choose your file to be compressed and password protected.
click add
Click the advance tab
Click the set password button
put the password in as shown and then click okay on the two screens

find the file, double click it, it will then ask you for a password to un rar the file
