Crystal Xbox mods

Just bought my self one of those crystal limited edition xboxes, its luverly by the way :D

I have got the Xenium chip turning up tomorrow :D

Also i have bought a lcd (4x20) to go with the chip. anyone tried it yet?

mediacenter works with it apperently.

Anyone tried this set up?

:eek: wow that does look nice. thinking of getting one my self- whats the standard jewel on it? See through? Yeah from what i've read xbmc does work with it- is the LCD screen back lit? bit pointless otherwise

you opened it up to see if its a v1.4 or "v1.6"? have they been able to chip the 1.6?

Nimbles, i got a 1.4 :D not heard of anyone who has had a 1.6 yet.

also the standard jewel is silvery.
debating whether to put my clear halo jewel on it..........:idea:

yeah the lcd is back lit, blue with white digits. :clown:

will post here as i get on with it. have fitted cold cathode so far..

that looks very noce, where did peeps order there xeniums and screens from?, gonna be fitting a few of these, also the leds on the bottom of it, looks like an `led bubble tube` , also the front panel on that thing looks like its bee polished, where as the standard front panel on an xbox, is frosted, anyone else notice that?, also if it has been polished, it looks like they have mounted the screen behind the plastic, as opposed to cutting a hole in the casing, very risky, and hard work, same as polishing it though i suppose, am toying with the idea myself

Would like to get just a case of the green/blue/white OR crystal boxes though. Now that'd be nice to have.

If they had the crystal xbox in the US it would go for around $250, almost twice the cost of a brand new xbox. :(

You'd be better off getting a L.E. xbox from japan so it will be ntsc. The clear blue one is coming out soon I'd love to get one of those.

Ya, but I think the mobo and connectors will be in pal so I don't know if it would work on our ntsc tv's, not to mention the psu.

Yeah, I guess your right. Maybe they should try it here to boost sales, I bet they would sell out, but I guess the price drop will do that.

Yep, the price drop to $149 USD is nice if you're an American but I'm neither from Europe/Japan (for the limited edition consoles) OR the US damnit (for the price drop) :(

It seems (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/5618/Halo-Bundle-Officially-Announced) you guys (in the US) are getting the Green crystal edition xboxes bundles with halo (and an extra controller- if its like the european one they are both Controller-S) for $169- pretty cheap- bit rubbish that they're giving halo out, not as sezy as the crystal one above but different never the less

No prob, at that price I'll buy as many as they have. But these kind of things rarely even make it to the sales floor after the employees go through them.

dunno what it'll be like over in the US but m$ haven't released additional green controllers/dvd remotes in the uk (that i know of) which is a bit annoying as you end up with 2 green controllers (hence the slightly higher price) and any other controllers will be black.

Good news for everyone wanting to buy a pretty Crystal European special edition xbox. Several team members now own them, and have found that they appear to be just normal 1.4 hardware revision Xboxes, and they work fine with Linux. (Users planning to use the MechInstaller exploit should be aware that the dashboard versions included is too new to be vulnerable to the exploit. (Dash 5659 and Kernel 5713 on mine)

just something i knocked together in 6 hours or so, looks alot like the ones from the german company in the very first pic, except i aint put as many LEDS in AS them , they have 20 LEDS just on the front, where as mine has 10, the controllers look shithot though, when it gets dark, get 5 leds in each controller

i was gonna put more LEDS in my controllers but you could see the wiring and it looked pooh, so just the 2 for me, wired directly of expension plug.

I Received that LCD screen the other day but aint got a clue how to wire it up:laugh: , will have to wait till OS2 comes out for the Xenium for the support to get better. :D

I will post controller ports tomorrow, as i am doing em as i am writing this.

dont use wiring in the pads mate, only on the 2 on the bottom left and right, all the rest ive bent the led and rezzy legs, to the correct shape, the heat shrinked them, just got shed loads of 5 mm leds, which give out more light (although the same intensity {MCD} as 3mm, they have a bigger `flood` if you know what i mean), which are superb for the inside stuff, where you cant really tell, also getting some vero board , so can start PCB`ing these up, much more tidy, and easier to fit, and less wiring, still waiting on the xenium os2 myself, had no end of probs with the xenium, on current version, nothing major, but no point getting a live enabled chip, if you cant boot to your original dash/bios, but yeah, will look good with the LCD mate, post some piccys when finished fitting, of the back sides , and what `flashing` your gonna use (unless the lcd comes with a rubber flash round the screen), anyways, good luck
