Currently I'm running Torrent Storm. It's good, but the speeds don't seem to be the greatest even after adjusting the settings. I've tried shadow torrent and didn't care for it. What do you guys use? What kind of speeds are you reaching? I've got an ADSL connection at 768kbps down 128kbps up.

Blah. BT Sucks when it comes to speed. My friends rave about torrent storm, but i dont really like i, and the speeds dont seam to different then any thing else. I use Azureus and depending upon the file, i range from usually around 30kbs, to 200kbs.

Another vote for Azureus, open source, and fast...

Azureus is great and has a very good Gui for multiple d/l's, I do find it very resource hungry though myself compared to other BT clients which is why I've gone back to Shadow/BitTornado.

But that aside I'd have to also agree and say it's the best overall software as long as you don't push your system multitasking as I do most hours of the day.

This is not unique. Azureus has this feature too.

If everybody slows there upload speed down, then surely nobody gets good download speeds. or am i missing something...

Well the idea is to set it at say 80-90% of max upload.

All clients should get similar speeds.

The one simple way to increase speeds for the bt network is

....

Wait for it.....

Buy every user 1500/1500 connections! ;), The only REAL way to do it is limt your upload slighlty so it doesnt flush your connection.

yeah all but the most primitive clients have upload capping now- as has been said limit the upload bandwidth to 80% of your total upload- in the uk most isp's only give you 1/4 the upload bandwidth relative to your download bandwidth (e.g. for me on blueyonder i have 1mbit dl, 256k ul)

Easiest with azureus or one of the 3G (i think thats what its called) as you can control the global upload rate, but shadows, and all its variants open up individual instances so you have to make sure that for multiple torrents using them, your total upload is around 80% of max.

I find the UPNP+Fast resume (http://aaron2003.myftp.org/upnpclient.html) client is the best- it has a few neat feautres like fast resume (that azureus has too) meaning that it doesn't need to scan a partially completed torrent if for what ever reason you shut it down mid download. It is also designed to aleviate some of the probs associated with sitting behind a upnp router- its dervied from shadows 5.8.7 i think, so is not as up to date as it could be but has very much the same feel to it. I use this if i'm doing other things on the pc- but azureus when i know its otherwise idle

couple of things to help the speed is making sure all the corect ports on your router (if you have one) are forwarded correctly, and any software firewalls are configured to allow port access to the client.

If you are going through suprnova from the seeds/downloaders info you should no before hand roughly what to expect- if there's one seeder and 1000's of leechers then expect to wait a while as you are relying on the seeder's upload speed at the end of the day
