Anyone Help with XBOX Live??

an anyone help with the following.
I have an XBOX with an Exciter Chip which I am able to turn on and off. I have recently bought XBOX Live and it says that the Ethernet cable is not connected, when it is, has anybody else had this problem and how was it remedied? Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.

Are you using a crossover or straight cable?
Are you connecting via a wireless device or directly to the modem?

We have a crossover ethernet cable and we aare attempting to connect through the computer not wirelessly

check your network settings of your PC. if you use Windows, go to control panel > Network Connection. then under LAN or High-Speed Internet look to see if your Local Area Connection in ENABLED.
