Hey guys just started using DVD-RB- excellent prog seems to be giving great results and is truly one click solution- its a little buggy at the mo but I've managed to do one dvd (Donnie Brasco- R2) and it came out great

I've been looking through the CCE related settings in it- and there are two options which i don't really understand:
1) VBR_Bias- Default is 10 (out of 100- with increments of 5)
2) Quality_Precision- Default is 24 (out of 64- with increments of 4)

I had a look through the CCE manual but i'm not sure if the author of DVD-RB has actually persisted with exactly the same names for the settings- maybe i need someone who has actually used RB. I haven't changed them but was wondering what they do?

And it also seems that CCE is undersizing the output- the ouptut video_ts folder for Donnie Brasco was about 4.29 GB (From about 8GB original). To me the quality (did 4-pass- took about 8 hrs  ) is still better than a 4.37GB Dvdshrink equivalent (deep analysis) but just being a little picky here :D

DVD-RB is going to turn out to be a fantastic program, as for the parameters, I'm not sure - I've just been using DVD-RB with ReJig, and the Big3 Method still for CCE. You might wanna try over at the Doom9.org forums, there's a couple of sticky topics in the One Click Backup section you might find an answer in.

agreed, still a few teething probs but thats to be expected from a beta prog

I have asked the q over there- i think jdobbs is just being bombarded from all sides with different questions some of which are directly to do with DVD-RB and alot (like mine) to do with other factors.

Oh well I did a bit of searching and think i know what the quality_precision is but someone here (celtic_druid ;) ) will know surely? :D

I have to agree, DVD ReBuilder would have to be the best thing out since sliced bread :D

If you have been a user of DVD2SVCD using CCE, then I believe 1) is refering to BIAS (I normally set to 20) and 2) is refering to Image Quality Priority. This I normally set to 17 or 20 with CCE 2.5 (has a range from 1-100) but as he uses 1-64 as used in later versions of CCE, so I then set this to 12.

I was getting 4.30gb as final size with an odd one at 4.29gb. However in ver 0.27 (or was it 0.28) the author upped the final size and I now get 4.33gb consistantly.

While you are here CM ...... :D

I notice nimbles said he did a 4 pass using CCE taking 8 hrs. Phew! Do you think that there is any real need to go that far or would a 2 pass be enough, I would have thought the latter myself but then i'm prolly wrong. Be interested in your thoughts m8.

Ooops forget, welcome to the forum too Mr Chicken Plucker. :D

Ok well my computer is now on the slow side comparatively- athlon xp 2200, pc2400 ram (512mb).

I think (i may be wrong but) CCE is optimised for pentium 4.

However it did give better results that IC8 which usually takes me about 4 and a bit hours- and while it (CCE) is a resource hog i can use the computer where as with IC8 my computer almost completely freezes up.

So far I've running it while at uni/ before i go to bed- so i'm not really suffering from using it but it's down to personal choice and to an extent the home cinema set up you have at home- if they are backups for a anything up to a 21" tv i guess you're not gonna see the difference between this or dvdshrink.

Only used it for very large dvd-9's (e.g. 7.5+GB) so I'm not ditching dvdshrink yet :D

nimbles: i get away with using a 2 pass on most large movies and dont notice any playback problems on a toshiba 50" rear projection TV so im assuming you must be using something larger, or maybe you haven't tried using 2 pass.

nope nowhere near as big- 50" wow- got this philips 32" that does this dodgy line doubling jobbie for "pseudo hdtv" and sometimes things look noisy/blocky but most of that is no doubt due to its own digital processing method- definitely noticeable when put in a mega shrunk (e.g. <65%) dvd using dvdshrink.

i've switched to 3-pass now- may now actually try the big three method cos i think one of the reasons i couldn't get it to work before was cos i didn't have eclcce, i guess processing time is gonna be similar with that and there's probably way more control over the whole process too.

Have a look at this guide nimbles http://www.doom9.org/mpg/maestro2.htm this is the one i've always used. i've done hundreds of dvd's using this guide and everyone has come out within 10-15mb of a full disc.:insane: i do all my dvd's to the scene standard of 5 passes, on my p4 2.4/1gb ram it takes me roughly 70mins per pass on a 120min progressive movie.

Personally i only have a sony wega 29" tv, but even on that dvdshrink rips look like total crap to me. the only thing i find dvdshrink usefull for is on movies where you can just remove the forgein audio tracks to keep the movie+menu untouched.

hey thanks Uranus- this is probably gonna be cheaper than getting scenarist for the big three method ;)

Well after reading the link that Uranus provided on how he does DVDs I've come to the sad realisation that I'm a total retard with the way I've done my movies using just DVD Shrink and CloneDVD to burn the files. :bawling:

How long does that schitt take from beginning to end anyways because it already takes 2 hours to rip it using DVD Shrink for me ffs, lol.

How long is a piece of string?

Ok..for me anyway..roughly.

10mins to rip dvd->5mins for dvd2avi->2mins to setup avisynth and cce-> encoding?? say 6hrs for a 120min movie, 10mins to import into dvdmastero->10mins to export from dvdmastero, 5mins to copy and paste the vobs back to the movie folder, 2mins to correct the ifo's with ifoupdate and lastly 5mins to delete the dead buttons with menuedit.:insane:

The guide looks like a lot of farting about, but trust me it's well worth it and if i can do it then anybody can.;)

Almost 7hrs to complete? Ouch. Think I'll just wait it out for the dual layer burners in the upcoming months, thanks.
