the way i understand it is if you run a PC3200 ram module WITH PC2100 ram module, your computer will run the two at the LOWEST spec, in this case PC2100 and not at two different speeds simultaniously.

my computer currently has 512mb PC3200 ram, but i have a spare 128mb PC2100 module. would it be a good idea to out the two together and run it at 640mb PC2100? or is it better/the same to run it at the speed it currently is?

thanks :insane:

I would run the single stick of 512Mb tbh. Should be quicker.

all you will do, as you yourself have said, is lower the speed of your 3200 ram.

What chipset do you have?

but surely running at 640mb is faster than 512mb? are these recommendations based upon what you would do, or do you know for a fact?

ps2wiz - what exactly do you mean? im not sure what a chipset is :(

thanks to all for your help.

More memory does not mean you computer will be faster necessarily. It means that it would be able to load more data simultanesously.

And if you have a chipset that only supports pc2100 ram, then you are not going to be loosing out on anything if you install that 128mb stick since your pc3200 stick is already runing at pc2100 speeds. If that is the case.

What ps2wiz says is true, more ram doesnt equal faster speeds. To find out your chip set you can download aida32, or refer to your motherboard manual. Do a google search for it.

Well, what chipset do you have?

according to AIDA32, the motherboard chipset is SiS648

That chipset supports pc2700 ram.
