I suspect most people will disagree with you

:insane: anyone reason why ?

Because most people prefer Riteks.

"These are terrible disks, best to avoid and pay an extra couple of quid. I had a 75% failure rate on a Sony DRU 500a "

Yup, Datawrite/Bulqpaq's quality changes so often that it is impossible to tell what you are getting from batch to batch. Almost everyone who has used them has been screwed over at some point. With Riteks being as cheap as they are now it really isn't worth it to bother with questionable media.

Whatever the positives or negatives of the Datawrite Red discs, quoting experiences with the DRU500 isn't particularly useful. There are plenty of serviceable discs the 500 has major issues with, including Riteks which often only burn at 2x. In other words, it's just as much a crap writer as the discs are crap discs.

In fact, a friend of mine had a 500 a year ago, and *gave* me around 200 discs he thought were useless. Princos, Riteks, Lead-Datas, Optodiscs, and a couple of others. *ALL* of them worked OK, at 4x, on my 105.

I'm always sceptical of reviewers who have problems with one drive and dismiss them as rubbish across the board -- this smacks of ignorance on their part IMHO and would far prefer to see comments (still slating the media but doing it the right way):

DataWrite V2 - Unusable with my hardware: The Datawrite v2 RedTop will not record on my new Panasonic E50 domestic DVD Recorder. Also my PC will not recognise them on my Panasonic -R/-RW/DVDRam drive (QF 52074). Bulkpac OrangTop (QF51144) and Ebuyer WhiteTop (QF 56243) work well with these two hardware items.

FWIW, I also happen to think that the Infosmart/AN31 media, which is the disc the Reds are based on, are perfectly serviceable and for the money represent something of a bargain. They're certainly ahead of Princo, and they're cheaper. No, they aren't as good as Ritek, but generally, as long as you don't get a bad batch (and I never have), they're consistently average and work on the majority of playback devices. My main issue with them is balancing, they can make a bit of a racket in some DVD players.

Its just one unhappy customer that i chose to quote of the many others that can be found at the link i provided.
Sorry if my reply wasn't useful but as i've not used this media i thought it was better for Qube to read what people say who have used them.

I wasn't saying the reply wasn't useful, the link you posted is a good one and I apologise if that's the way it was interpreted. It's just that the Sony is a notoriously fussy writer and I thought it was necessary to point that out.

From my own experience, and I'd say the majority of the posts on that link, these discs are mostly OK as long as you're using Pioneer hardware. Other writers can have problems with them, especially Sony and LG it seems.

Thanks for all the replies, I use the datawrite reds often and had one batch of discs a bit patchy, about a 50% ratio using Nero 6, I've reverted back to Nero 5....56 and had no probs since, regardless of firmware update on my Liteon 1s81 burner to hsg8.
