computer virus

Hi,
A m8 of mine has got a virus that constantly turns his pc off.
I remember something being on the news last week it got to grips with some large american firms, but i did'nt take to much notice.
Does anybody know what it's called then i can find out how to remove it from his pc or does anybody how to get rid of it.
