I have my own 75 gig hard drive I am trying to use in my PS2. I used ************ PS2 HDD tool, which is basically the Sony HDD utility disc 1.1. I formated my drive and it appeared to work no problem. However, the drive is not in the browser menu and when I enable hard drive in Socom 2 options (I own the original game), it says the hard drive is not correctly connected to my PS2, yet when I first choose this option I can hear the PS2 initialize the HDD, so it is connected. Any suggestions?

did you ever fix this? So what's up with the hard drive now. Is there some sort of caddy required to attach the hard drive to the ps2? Next question is can the HD be used to load games/media from it? I want the hard drive mainly for loading divx and xvid movies.

3rd party HDD dont work with any retail games. There only good for homebrew stuff, like storing roms for PGEN or SNES Station.

I believe you could use the DMS3 hdd dump util to dump a video, then use the reality player to play it.
Check out ps2 ownz
