You will have too disable the chip first, otherwise its a ban.......

not too sure on rumours about hdd locking though?

sure someone will tell ya:)

hdd has to be locked other wise you'll get an error when turning the xbox on with the chip off.

just make sure the chip is off when trying to access live and don't accidently acces live elements if you are using a back up at the time.

Apparently the x2 4981 bios has a live blocking feature (for when you accidently access a live related element of a game) although not sure how well that works- theres been a few people who claim to have been banned while using the bios-

you could also embed your x2 4981 or evox m7 bios with an already banned eeprom (using xbtool latest version) so m$ will ban that eeprom and you can log into live with the real one- although not sure if that works 100%- and getting another eeprom would be upto you- get it from a "friend" who has already been banned or one who has a modded xbox and doesn't ever intend on using live

sorry if the last two comments makes no sense if you need to know more i or someone else will embelish further :D

LOL, that is a pretty good idea, Nimbles. It seems obvious, but I never thought of using an already banned eeprom for 'experimental' purposes with X24981. Heh, sometimes the simplest things escape us. So, what he means is: Backup your unused eeprom and save, load up already banned eeprom and experiment, after getting results, load original eeprom and play live (with a retail copy, of course). Bahh, I feel link an dummy never trying that before, since I alway wanted to know whether 4981 truly makes live idiot-proof.

The only thing that i'm not 100% sure about is the way games check the eeprom- i spacked my old cheapmod by basically embedding my bios with a dummy eeprom (that u're supposed to replace with your own or a "friends"), so when i booted the xbox up got the "GREEN for half a sec then RED Flashing" error- which is the no/corrupt eeprom error- but turned off the switch and it worked fine so basically in the boot sequence the xbox was looking at the embeded eeprom- got rid of the chip replacing it with a x2 pro and loaded up some different bioses, some without eeprom embedded some with, and the xbox booted them all so i know that the original eeprom hasn't been wiped.

I was using the eeprom embedding cos of the worries over avalaunch/ other apps messing with the eeprom, but the maker of xbtool suggests the eeprom embedding as a solution to live is a possibility- but he does stress that he's not sure about the which eeprom gets accessed by different apps/games- cos the eeprom is a physical chip on the board so i find it strange that somehow everything gets redirected to the one embeded in the bios- its been a few weeksnow since the release so there should be feedback over in the bios forum in xbscene now.
