Just installed XP configured my modem and set up my freeserve account no problems, however when i switch off the machine and restart it, if i try and dial up it gives me "RAS 633 Error, please check your password and account details" you then have to re-enter all the details again then it is fine.

Why do i keep losing my settings? What am i doing wrong? Can anybody help?

Cheers

hi there. A google for "RAS 633 Error" gives the following information.

Taken from http://www.chicagotech.net/raserrors.htm
------------------------------
Error 633 Modem Is Already in Use

Symptoms: When you try to use your modem on a Windows computer, you may receive an error message similar to the following: Error 633 Modem is already in use, or is not configured for Remote Access dial out or The port is in use.
Resolutions: 1. Verify no other applications that are using the modem. You can open Task Manager to check that by press CTRL+ALT+DEL. Another way to test it is reboot the computer.
2. This behavior may occur when another device with a driver, for example outdated Palm Pilot software, conflicts with the modem.
3. Telephone.ini or unimdm.tsp is missing or damaged.
4. Make sure the modem is setup correctly and may apply SP.
5. Removing and reinstalling it, or apply the new drive may fix the problem.
6. Make sure no two ISDN installed on the same machine and attempt to connect to the same server.

I already checked to see if there was more than one modem trying to use this port, but there is only one, now my CD Writer and DVD ROM are not being recognised in my computer

I take it this is an XP upgrade on an old machine?

could be a number of things.

1. Check that the IDE cables are secure inside the case

2. Check that the power cables are secure inside the case

3. check that all Drives are seen when the machine POST's

4. try removing individual components that are not required (modem, addition soundcard, etc) until the machine does POST.

You're going to need some more info to the diagnostic table before we can offer anything more im afraid.
