Hi, I have a question about my new NEC 3540A 16x Dual Layer burner. First of all, I have Dysan 8x dvdrs and Ritek 8x G05's. I have a Pentium 4 1.7ghz processor with 512 ram. The question is if I can burn everything including movies and games (ps2 and xbox) at 8x without the risk of skipping or errors? Let me know thanks
You should be able to burn at 8x fine mate, i know on my P4 1.6, 512mb SDRAM etc i can burn at 8x fine.

The PC might handle it just fine, the consoles on the other hand are another story. Console DVD-ROMs can be ultra picky with media. Pop a blank Dysan in to find out who really makes them and use www.dvdinfopro.com (http://www.dvdinfopro.com). Most people outsource to manufacturers (Ritek/Ridata does produce their own discs though). Truth be told, if you live in the U.S. the best deal right now is unquestionably the 4x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R in 100 packs from www.shop4tech.com (http://www.shop4tech.com). $32 shipped but if you enter in the following code: summer10 you get an additional 10% off. So $28.80 shipped and if you manage to get a referral it is even $2-$3 cheaper. With the latest firmware update these will burn at 8x (possibly higher) on your NEC with no problems whatsoever. Taiyo Yuden is a top notch manufacturer and you never have to guess who produces them since they always produce their own discs.
