Hi,
My Surround Sound System only has separate 5.1 inputs, but my DVD player only has an optical audio out (coaxial).
Is there anyway to make the one output go into the 6 for my 5 speakers and sub???
Thanks for any help. :wavey:

IMO, it's better to buy a DVD player with built-in 5.1 decoders that has 5.1 analog audio output. There are some converter boxes that will convert digital audio from coaxial or optical to 5.1 analog but they will cost you as much as buying a new DVD player with built-in 5.1 decoders. I saw some converters that cost $80 to over $100 while my Panasonic 5-disc player DVD F-87 with built-in dts and DD 5.1 decoders costs only $110. The single disc players even cost much lower. The second option is to get an AV receiver with digital inputs. For example, the 100Wx6 Sherwood RD-7500 6.1 receiver with audio optical in/out, audio coaxial in, 6.1 analog in, and dts/dts-ES 6.1/Dolby Digital EX 6.1 decoders is only $150.

Yeah i agree with Van Nugent. You best bet would be to get a AV receiver if in UK u can pick them up from richer sounds really cheap. Oh and optical audio out is diffrent from coaxil that will be 2 outputs u got there.

if you only have a 6-channel input its not a digital receiver (it must be pro-logic only), you need a digital processor to add between the dvd player and amp but they dont make those separately until you get into 4-figure prices, so youll have to get it combined with either a dvd player (anything with a 6-channel output) or a new amp/reciever (anything with a coax/optical input)

You don't need to spend a 4 figure price for the convertor. Do a Google search for DTS to analog convertor and you will find many companies that sell the convertor for around $200. You can also pick these up at just about any midrange to high end stereo store.
