I have an Acer Travelmate 2200 laptop with 256mb ddr ram installed, and I am now wanting to upgrade this to 1gb (2x512) but I can't find the pre-installed memory, just 1 empty slot. Obviously the pre-installed memory is hidden deep inside my laptop somewhere, would it just be a case of taking the whole back off my laptop and I'll find another slot, or could it be more complicated than that once I've dismantled it?
Totally unnecessary pain in the ar$e, this is. Why do they bother making it inaccessible?
Cheers for any help.

cus they only like to u to change tinnnny bits of it :)
ive got a travelmate 220 here half in pieces, dunno how different it is, but i took a little look for you
however fot that model there are 2 slots under a panel in the base, 1 full, 1 empty
if urs isnt there its probably a case of taking the keyboard off (easy) and then the casing below it (where the trackpad is) - thats where id hedge my bets about the memory
dont they do 1GB sticks for it though?

Cheers chimpuk, though there doesn't seem to be any way of removing the keyboard. Looks like I'm going to have to take the thing apart.
They do 1GB sticks yeah, but I trusted the manual when it said it was upgradeable to 2 GB, and I got 2 512mb Corsair sticks on Ebay for a good price.

keyboard should be easy to remove, is on most laptops
undo a few screws or jimmy off the plastic strip above the keyboard, then it should just slide out and u can disconnect it

Sorted now, thanks mate. You were right, the other memory slot was directly underneath the keyboard.
