I posted a while back about problems with my Panasonic DMRE55. I phoned up panasonic and told them i was using datawrite red DVD-R and when i recorded something and if i wanted to delete it then it would but would not give me the disk space back. The guy on the other end of the phone said i can only record on the disk once??? I haven't finalised the disk yet either. Does this sound right to you guys? That i can only record once on a DVD-R even tho its not been finalised?

cheers

Yes, if you want to write more then once, and be able to erase and get your space back you need DVD-/+RW.
The only way you can write later on to a DVD-R is to use multisession. But all this will do is let you write more data later on, you can not erase and get your space back.

Correct me if I misunderstand but you seem to be saying that you try to delete the data from a DVD-R and rewrite to the disc, you can't do that, you should be able to add data if the disc hasn't been finalised but you can't overwrite the existing data you need a re-writable DVD for that (DVDRW), to be honest I'm surprised you've managed to delete anything from a DDVD-R .... but then I've never tried.

Thanks for replying guys. It does delete things but it just says space left 0:00.

What re-writable disks would you recommend that i buy??

Think i should have stuck to the good old VCR :)

It doesn't delete anything, it just marks the TOC as not to show the file anymore.

I've had good luck with the Imation brand if DVD-R and DVD-RW's

Can't really recommend any DVD-RW as I don't use them but to be honest I suspect you'll find it cheaper to use DVD-R and discard them when no longer needed, I guess it depends what you're using them for .... obviously backing up important irreplaceable data requires a better disc than recording a movie.
