ps2 will not load game, disc tray will not close

Ok got a duo chip installed about one month ago everything has been great, all of a sudden yest my ps2 stop loading games and when I open the disc tray using the blue button it will not close unless I push it closed, and even then no game loads, no game load if a disc is in when started either, does this sound like a chip problem? Or a drive problem??
If it is a drive problem can a drive from a newer ps2 be put in a v1 ps2??

unplug it for a minute or more & plug back in this should reset the chip.

I have tried that. When it first started I took apart the console and didn't notice anyhting wrong the wires seemed intact I didn't play around with it as I had someone else put the chip in, I put the console back together and then it worked again until the next day then same thing, I unplugged it for about a minute then plugged back in with no luck, I will unplug tonight for longer and see if that does something. if so then guess it is the chip. Anyone else have this problem???
