Just wondering if anyone has tried the ogg fireware from iriver on any of their mp3/cd player. dont want to update it till i know it works.
From iriver fireware page
Therefore it is possible that a specific part of the song excess the supported bit rate that iMP supports. In that case, the track might skip until the bit rate is reduced to the supported range.
But it doesnt say the what bit rates it supports!!
I have emailed them about it and if i hear anything i will tell you guys.

I read many complaints that the decoder would have problems with bitrates over 200kbps. However, iRiver said that they would realease an update fireware at the end of 2003 that supports up to 360kbps at 44.1KHz. I hope it's available now.

Then it should support higher bitrates from what iRiver said. (I hope :)).

Need to be carefull when just specifying ogg. ogg is just a container it can contain vorbis, theora, tarkin, flac, speex, etc.
How exactly do you control the bitrate though? I mean if you use say q=6 then you really can't control the max bitrate. Then if you were to go with ABR encoding, that would really kinda defeat the purpose of using vorbis.

Got reply from iriver and it doesnt sound good;
Dear Customer
Thank you for contacting us.
We specified the supportive Ogg bit rate range on the page as below.
It's 96 ~ 160Kbps(average).
We apologize if it is hard to find.
1. Support OGG Vorbis format - The OGG Vorbis format provides a greater sound quality than the MP3 files. This version is capable of playing the OGG Vorbis format files with a bit rate from 96 ~ 160Kbps(average). http://www.iriver.com/images/firmware/ifp/ogg-navi.gif
