A little brainteaser for you ....

I just bought an Asian silver from a Chinese guy down the Pub for a fiver.
Got it home and it wouldn't play in any of my standalones.
Whacked it in the PC, but the DVD-ROM drive & the Burner couldn't play it either.
Managed to explore the disk, in Windows, and it showed all the vobs as zero kb (i.e. empty).

I then powered up DVD Decrypter and got an error message "Disk Authentication Failed" reason "Failed to Decrypt Disk Key", however I ignored the message and DVD Decrypter then went on to rip the disk without a problem.

I then reburnt the extracted files to a trusted Ritek G04 and the disk plays fine in everything.
I've never had a disk like this before .... any ideas ?

Probably the whole disc is one big image file???????????????????

Just because it is an asian silver doesnt mean it will work just like an original, I have had plenty of asian silvers which either dont run at all or if they do keep breaking up and sticking.

@ onephatamugen

It's not an image ... like I said, I can view the contents in Windows ok ... but the files are 0kb.

@ Indiana Jones

I know that m8, but there is nothing wrong with the files ... the film when reburnt, plays perfectly ... no breaking up or sticking.

The point I was making was .... Windows can see the files, but reports them as 0kb (i.e.empty) and DVD Decrypter, although objecting, reads them to the HDD (in File Mode) fine.

I have lots of Silvers too, but never had one that behaves like this.

Also ..... have just tried this disk on a Pacific 1002w (ASDA's cheapo) standalone and it plays perfectly.

Sounds like a particularly lame form of copy protection possibly?
