I dont know how this may have happened, but when i turn on the pc now, when it attempts to load windows normally i get a bsod, asking me to run chkdsk /f. I can restart the pc and chose the setting 'use most recent sucessfull config' or whatever that said, and get into windows, but then when i want to either set a chkdsk for the next time i run windows, or even try to run windows normally i get the bsod again.. :(

Is there anything i can do> Theres no way im doing a full reformat on this beauty..

Is there a startup disk i can make which will have chkdsk on it and be able to run it overr the c:? It wont let me run chkdsk thru the command prompt and fix it as it says the volume is in use, which obviously it is..

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as it will save me rebooting my pc twice every time i want to get onto it!

Thanks in advance
Chris

you can try a repair install. Boot from your XP disc, select install windoz and select repair.
This will retain all your icons and progs etc as well.

Thanks mate, well i tried that and it did what i originally intended- i ran checkdisk with /p and /r, but it didnt give me the /f option, it seemed to fix the drive though.. but..

I still get this bsod :'(

I'll try and get some more information on the bsod, later thanks for your reply tho mate.

Have you installed any other hardware? This can sometimes cause master / slave conflicts.

What is specific BSOD that you are encountering? Search for it on M$'s site or google it.

The BSOD i encounter is as follows:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, please restart your computer. If this screen appears again, followthese steps.

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer.

What should i be looking for on MS's site?

Computers are only programed to do whatever you want them to do. You just have to figure out a way to do that. :)
