I was wondering, what do these do? Just make 1:1 copies of discs?

How much can you expect to pay for one? I have seen them with hard drvies, is this for storing popular disc images on?

Yes. They clone your data.

SVP (http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/Hardware_Section__.html) do duplicators as well. They essentially take a copy of a 'master' disc and copy is a determined number of times.
They are usually standalone (i.e. do not need a PC) which is an added bonus.

If you go for one .... remember that the copies it produces will be as good or bad as the original ..... i.e. it will clone the disk warts 'n all.
Unlike a PC it will not give read errors if a master is bad, it will just produce an identical copy.

As for price it depends on the number of "target" drives.A dup with 1 reader and 1 burner can be had for about $600.Where as a 7 target will run about $1600.I have a 9 target dup I put together for $1400,with 9 Pioneer 107s.

Fair bit more if you want robotics.
