Hello,
I got a HP 200i DVD writer...
The problem is it plays fine, burns cdr-r fine, makes images, but when it comes to recording on to DVD-r or DVD-rw it finds no disc, even when there is one in!! I have tried Verbatims and FWS Ritek Dye DVD-r...I did'nt use any installarion software on there, as I bought it from a friend. Really need it to work.:bawling:
Any would would be really appreciated!! Thanks.

You got hosed my friend. All HPs are + format ONLY burners. Notice the - and the + so no - format disc will work on it. My guess is that is why your friend sold it to you. Almost all newer burners are dual format (support writing to both - and +). My advice would be to sell it on ebay (probably get $40-$50 out of it) and buy a new Pioneer. Also your HP has a max writing speed of 2.4x.

Hi mate, thanks for your reply, guess I didn't 'read the tin'! I actually bought my friends whole pc off him, and ripped it into mine. Guess i'll sell it on eBay...Thanks again.

Oh okay. I thought he was just ditching the writer while he could still get some money for it. I have seen it happen several times. A "so-called" friend sells off his DVD Writer to his clueless buddy for a rediculous price and then we end up having to clear up all the misunderstandings. Anyways no biggie as it came with the PC. ;)

Mind you ... it's probably just as good as the crap they're putting in new PC's at PISSY World :D

Dell has the same problem here in the US. They charge people $150-$200 to add a 4x + format only burner (generally HP) and I can't tell you how many times I have got stuck trying to help people out with those stupid things. Dell offers some great deals but someone needs to pass the word along to NEVER get a DVD Burner through them. For $125 shipped you can get the Pioneer 107D from www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) so when you do the math it's just a flat-out rip off.
