m8 pc screen freezes on startup.

my m8 pc's screen freezes on startup he's using xp.he says windows loads up,the icons appear then the mouse cursor apears and doesnt move and beside it he's getting the loading egg timer and then it just stays like that.

i havent seen it myself told him i'll come up on monday after work,but also told him to see if he can boot to safe mode,he's just phoned me and he cant,any help here .

could be a couple of things
as a start try checking the graphics is in the slot correctly and also check the ram is aswell,
then if its still the same check all cable's are connected correctly

he's done all that still no joy what else can i tell him except format and reinstall windows

has he checked the ram if their is 2 or more test them one at a time
is the hard drive full?
if it's not that then i would format and reinstall windows

Can he boot ok in Safe Mode (F8)

no he cant boot to safe mode that was the first thing i told him to try could his mouse or keyboard just be knackered would that do this,any other idea's guy's

I'm assuming he's tried CTRL+ALT+DELETE, to try find out what is stalling ?

How about bios can he get into bios ? and move around it ?
