winxp will not power down

i have winxp installed

when i go to "Turn Off Computer" from the start menu and choose Turn Off
it goes through the procedure and then just boot up again like resetting basically :mad:

also there is no option to Stand By . this is faded out and cannot be selected

any ideas

Please tell us the specifications of your computer.
Are your device drivers updated to the latest version? Especially the motherboard and video drivers.

An old mobo that I had, did the samething. Turned out to be something wrong in the bios. Check to see if there are any new bioses for your mobo.
