I have a few tips for you and if you still have questions, please post back:

1) Weight: The weight (or thickness) of the paper doesn't reflect the print quality of the paper. The heavier paper, however, is easier for handling, processing, and mounting and of course, would cost more. In some cases, thinner papers are preferable, for example, when used with albums of compact size.

2) Finish Type: When shopping for photo papers, we'd normally see 2 main types of finish used on the paper: Matte and Glossy. Other types you may see are pearl, semi-matte and semi-glossy. Glossy papers have higher reflectivity, which would give the print-outs more details and better contrast. Matte finish works better for black and white photos.

3) Pay attention to paper grades. Generally, paper manufacturers offer papers in different grades such as general purpose, medium grade, premium grade, or in layman's terms: normal contrast, better contrast, and better better :) contrast grades. Depending on your application, choose the appropriate paper grade to get the desired results without wasting money.

I have tried a lot of paper to get the best prints from my camera. I would suggest using Ilford paper. It is not the cheapest but in my opinion you get what you pay for.

It is normally the Ilford Smooth High Gloss paper i use.
