Just recently logging into XP pro has become really slow on all user accounts. I have used MSconfig to minimise the startup processes but it's had no effect at all.

Logging on can take anything between 2 and 3 minutes and its driving me daft any help appreciated.

BTW it seems to have occurred since my son started playing Cossacks in his account but removing the game has nade no difference.

Not sure if this is the answer, but worth a try :

Thanks for that. Still not brilliant but a lot quicker than it was:)

This isn't going to help much but just a comment - I'm pretty tenacious when it comes to problem solving on my machine, and really fastidious about security and maintenance. And really into words that end in "ious" apparently.

Anyway, the point was that after 9 months of perfect running with XP Pro something happened to really stunt the performance of my machine. I tried every trick in the DVDRG book to straighten it out but it just hit the skids and stayed there, in the end I reinstalled and all was perfect again. Moral of the story for me was that every now and again windows can take serious offence to something and it just can't be reversed.

On the plus side, it gave me the excuse I was looking for to bring a new system into service :D

Thats pretty strange really 'cause 9 months is just about the length of time since my last full install of XP. I'm really baulking at the idea of another full install and will probably hold off until I absolutely have no option to do it - BUT you do make a very valid point - and having looked at the progs I've installed over 9 months there is actually quite a lot of cr*p in there:eek:

Yeah, its really bizarre - I've always strongly argued in the past that any problem can be fixed - and have had XP Pro installed for much longer than that in the past, but for me, for some reason, something caused a bind that I just couldn't magic my way out of. I guess its just another lesson learned, all part of lifes rich tapestry etc etc.

How come the new user name by the way m8?

Virgin, have you tried cleaning your floppy drive lens? I heard that helps that problem.

Virgin, have you tried looking for it in the floppy disk itself? I heard it's build-in. :)

I heard it's only fitted to drives made in California .... if you look carefully it's hidden under the rear left rubber foot

I wasn't able to edit any of my posts or access my profile. I tried contacting the mods but was told that there was nothing wrong so I just added a 2 to my user name:)

(The dog died 2 weeks ago but I'll stick with this name as the wife fancies a Shitzu next:D )

Just logged in on my laptop on my old user name and realised I can now access my profile and edit posts again:)
