Where Did I Go?

Hi guys, got my pc's lan cards installed, all working. got all the leads, and the 5 port switcher.
Now I've used the wizard on the main pc to setup a network, and on the other machines. All have the same work group.
At the bottom of the screen, the network icon is flashing, as it should be (the two computer screens). If I open up Network Neighbourhood, I can't see any machines.
How do I go about setting this up so I can see the other machines, coz I want to share intenet.
Appreciate your time,
Cheers

well first off, what is the 5 port switcher.... make model etc.
to get the network working so you can see the PC's, all of them need to have Print and File Sharing turned on in the network properties.
depending on whether the Switcher is actually a Switch or a Router determines whether you need to use ICS or similar software, or just the hardware to share the internet.

Ahh, its at my friends's work, as thats where we are going to do it.
Whats ICS?
It is a switch, and not a router. It'll be setup just as mine is at home, so he can share his net.
hmm, not really shore whatelse to say

ICS stands for internet connection sharing. You will need to set it up on all the computers as you're using a switch rather than a router. Assuming that your using XP, there's detailed instructions on how to set up ICS located HERE (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q306126&sd=tech).

by network, I take it you mean the file sharing part of it.
for this you need to make sure all PC's have File and Print Sharing installed, on the properties of the TCP/IP protocol.
once installed, then right click on the drives you want to share and go to sharing and security. Choose the bottom option of Network Sharing and Security and you're done.
