I have a backed up dvd burned at 4x and it is skipping a lot. I already deleted the image. If I make a 1:1 disk copy, and burn it again at 1x, will it still skip?

you could try ripping it with dvddecrypter and reburning.

Do you have a DVD-RW you could burn it to first? It's hard to say in these cases. It could be the disc itself. Have you tried playing it on your PC?

If it plays OK via the PC (WinDVD or PowerDVD) then you can rip the disc & reburn to another media. It's possible that your player doesn't like the disc, or your burner does not make good copies with that media. (e.g. LG or NEC with ritec). I personally have a LG burner which didn't make good copies using ritec media however they played fine on a PC. Latest firmware fixed that problem.

Yup if it works on the PC but not the DVD Player then it is almost certainly a media problem. Reburn it to a higher quality media and you should be fine.

Did you update the firmware? If memory serves me correctly the Lite-On's are nothing but trouble before a firmware upgrade. If you haven't done that then do it first. If that doesn't solve it then pick up some Ritek or Taiyo Yuden media and you won't regret it. Riteks are pretty cheap as well. (70-80 cents a disc in the US, and about 30-40 p a disc in the UK).
