That is a bit on the hot side, you need to be sure that your software is reporting temperature correctly - assuming you are using software not reading from the BIOS?

Do you have the correct size fan and any case ventilation?

Also what mobo are you using too?

Make sure you are using the very latest BIOS for it as many Athlon 64 mobos seem to have quite frequent updates to solve lots of problems these days so well worth a check on the mobo manu site.

Yeah ... that does seem hot for a 64 .... mine idles at around 49/50c, with no extra case cooling.

My understanding is .... these should run a good few degrees cooler than the old XP Athlons.
My old AtlonXP 2800+ used to run at around 54/55c at idle.

Could also be worth checking Heatsink/Fan are ok.

make sure youve got a good thermal compound in there (any silver paste best)
latest bios for your motherboard as its been known some bios reporting temp incorrectly

make sure your heatsink and thank supports the rated speed of your chip

62 is a little hot, wont do any damage short term, but long term its gonna shorten its life expectancy :D
