..I have been given a Mac puter from a photographer friend who still prefers to use his PC, but minus any progs. I have a couple of questions. First what in any mac owners opinion are the best virus protection, firewall, to use for internet security, burner progs etc ? Second - when I switch on it comes up with his name and he says he thought he had deleted it but it keeps coming back up - can this be changed?
Thanks

Actually there are no real viruses for the mac (there was one that a virus company for the mac siad that they found a possilbe exploit but it has never been found in the wild)

The mac built in firewall in the os is pretty decent

Toast is an essential dvd burning program
Tutorials at the top of the page

If he is Running OS 10 you can use the system boot disk and eliminate it

Thanks for that - just feels strange having no real virus protection , sort of like being naked in the middle of the high street , lol.

i rarely run windows and macs w virus protection, firewalls, unsecure wireless networks. you'd be surprised that downloading and running good virus search software every 6 months or so turns up nothing. and it doesn't hog memory or cpu speed and power all the time like these "protective" proggies.

you'd also be surprised how many hackers don't care about your computer or your network. amazing.

your internet service provider is more invasive and nosy. it's more important to find an isp that is cool over garbage insecurity software.

antivirus software preys on gullible sorts who use outlook, ie, and open email attachments and still think the world is unsafe. the commies, terro card readers, and canadiens are coming to get us. tv said so.

xp is a virus in itself, the first ov, operating virus. wasn't service pack 2 an admission that it's a complete pos?
