This is really a dream come true, but how much we talking?. With Verbatim being the first to do so, I know they will be quite expensive. Does this also mean I would have to buy a dual layer dvd burner?. I wouldn't be able to update the firmware on my current dvd burner to burn DL-DVDR?. Also, this would make it roughly, 6-7 vcd movies on one DL-DVDR?. Either way, cant wait.

I've been advised, and C'T tests appear to back this up, that -R/DL is less compatible than +R/DL with bitsetting. So it doesn't look like anything to get too excited about just yet.

Nice to see they have finally arrived ... let's hope they live up to the hype.

I wonder how long it will be before a certain rip-off outfit buy up all the rejects and sell them as Grade A Plutoniums ;)

Depends on which burner you have. If you don't have one at this point that supports D/L of any kind then it is impossible, you will need a new burner. As for VCD movies, you could fit 6-7 VCD movie files on a regular DVD-R, or are we talking about SVCD quality here? ;)

Okay, now they are actually available for pre-order from Verbatim's own website and from meritline.com. They say that they should ship within the next couple of days. Thankfully they are pretty comparably priced to Verbatim's D/L DVD+R discs. The other bit of good news is that Nero is offering a new method of writing to D/L DVD-R which should help solve compatibility issues. Have a read at the following:

dunno bout that m8 ive got 40+ dual layer multi dvds ive made on +r media and compatability with home dvd players sucks when they first came out i thought they were superb but recently can,t get any [inc:verbs] to play without problems im certainly hoping for better results with -r media

Did you make sure to set the booktype to DVD-ROM? You do have the 109, right?

That is odd that you are having that trouble with even the Verbatim D/L +R discs. Those are as good as they get for D/L at this point.

Well it's now out at several sites here in the US. I won't buy any until I finish off my last two Verb D/L +Rs though (still debating what to use them for), that and I am waiting for the Nero update with LJR.
