Hi everyone, i've got a pioneer dvd-r, either the ao4/ao5 (whichever one did 4x recording).
Just bought myself some DVD+R which i'm sure this drive should be able to read but the drive can't initialize with them, anyone had similar experiences ?
They are 8x Infiniti Samurai dvd+r.
If it can't play these disks any idea on a firmware update for it ?
Cheers

Dont think either the A04 or A05 can write DVD+R's m8 .... try a -R disk, something like a Ritek G03 or G04 .... pioneers love them. (If it's an A04 get G03's or A05 G04's). You may find these hard to get now as evrything has moved on to 8x/16x.
You need to find out which drive it is b4 considering a firmware upgrade
.... Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information/Components/CD-ROM .....although a f/w upgrade wont allow +R's to be written.
It should read them ok though.

Yup, you can't write + format discs on an A05. The 106/A06 was the first Pioneer to support the + format. You will be able to write + format discs just fine on the Pioneer 109, however you will definitely want to get the Buffalo firmware upgrade flashed to it before doing anything else. This firmware upgrade allows you to set the booktype on the discs to DVD-ROM which is crucial for compatibility on some DVD Players and definitely on XBOXs with the Samsung drive in them. Do you happen to know which of the stock XBOX DVD-ROM drives you have in your XBOX?
BTW you can find the firmware at http://rpc1.org
