am about to get NTL 1mb broadband
am looking at this cheap £70 router:
BELKIN - F5D7633UK4A - MODEM WITH 125MBPS WIRELESS-G ROUTER & DESKTOP PCI NETWORK CARD F5D7633UK4A
1) will this be OK?
2) why does it have a modem aswell (assume NTL will give me one on connection)?
3) its ADSL, but was told this means it'll work on BT & cable, whereas DSL will only work on cable. Is it best then to get ADSL?

I'm not from the UK, however adslguide states that NTL uses cable. So you will need a cable modem and not an ADSL modem. You don't need a router with a modem if NTL will provide it. If they charge for it, you could purchase a router/cable modem combination. However whatever you do, I'd never get a Belkin wireless router as many people have problems with them dropping connections.

Yep ... E is right NTL requires a Cable modem, which they provide free on installation.
You should be able to just add a Router, like the Netgear WGR614 802.11g 54Mbps Wireless Cable/DSL Firewall Router
or
Netgear WGT624 802.11g 108 Mbps Wireless Cable/DSL Firewall Router
Have a look on Dabs or EBuyer for best prices.

This is a good alternative for use with Cable Modems :
